While in attendance at the Sommet de l’Élevage agricultural show which took place in France earlier this month, Agriland met a French-based machinery importer who is sourcing slurry systems built in Co. Armagh.

Luc Jeannerot is the boss of the French machinery importer Agro Jeannerot which is based near Switzerland in a region known as Franche-Comté.

He explained he first saw the slurry-systems which are built in Co. Armagh at the National Ploughing Championships and saw an opportunity for the machinery in the French market.

Speaking to Agriland, Luc said: “I buy SlurryKat equipment and sell it to French dealers. We then go out to the farm to set up the machines along with the farmer.”

He explained that the umbilical slurry-spreading system in France was “not that popular” but noted that biogas companies in France have growing volumes of slurry to spread and said “the umbilical system is the best way to increase output”.

“I first discovered SlurryKat at the National Ploughing Championships in Ireland. I said ‘this is something we need to introduce in France’.”

He said that most slurry is spread by tankers in France due to fields being “dispersed” but believes that with growing farm sizes and expanding biogas companies, the umbilical systems will be more common in the future.

Also at the stand was the SlurryKat European sales manager, Niall O’Neill who said the product is gaining traction in the French market now because of “forward vision”.

He explained that from 2025 onwards, the spreading of slurry with splash-plates will be phased out in France and the future of the slurry-system market in France will be for low emission slurry spreading (LESS).

Luc said the umbilical LESS systems can handle “big volumes of slurry” with trucks bringing slurry to the field and an umbilical system spreading in the field.

Niall said that machinery cooperatives known as CUMAs have a strong influence and that the company has been working to raise awareness of its range in these cooperatives.

SlurryKat is based outside Portadown in Co. Armagh and Luc said that machinery produced on the island of Ireland is associated with being “heavy duty” in the French market due to the tough conditions in Ireland.

A Co. Armagh company, Killyfaddy Farms Ltd., of Killyfaddy Road, has been convicted at Armagh Magistrates Court sitting in Newry Court, of transporting an animal that was not fit for the journey.

Killyfaddy Farms Ltd., was convicted and fined £300 plus £15 offender levy for one charge of transporting an animal which was not fit for the journey.

This is contrary to Regulation 5(1)(a) of the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 and Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005.

Court case

The case arose when a Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) official veterinarian at an abattoir examined an animal presented for slaughter.

The cow had a large swollen left fetlock joint with swelling extending down the hoof. The cow was hesitant to move and when she did was unsteady on her feet.

The vet stated that, in her opinion, the animal was suffering from a longstanding condition which, given the inability to balance properly or place her foot directly on the ground, meant that this animal was caused unnecessary suffering by transporting her.

DAERA said it gives high priority to the welfare of animals and operates a vigorous enforcement policy to ensure full compliance of regulatory requirements.

Any breaches are investigated thoroughly and offenders prosecuted as necessary, it said.

Northern Ireland animal welfare legislation also requires that animals must be fit to travel and must be cared for if they fall ill or are injured during transport.

The animals must be accompanied by competent persons and must be transported to their destinations without undue delay.

All those who have animals in their care either on farm, in transit or at slaughter have a duty of care to look after the animals’ welfare.

The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) is urging farmers to be “extra vigilant” of rural theft after reports of GPS equipment stolen on four different Northern Ireland farms in recent days.

The thefts happened on farms in Ballymoney and Glenavy in Co. Antrim and Loughgall and Tandragee in Co. Armagh.

UFU deputy president William Irvine said: “GPS equipment is extremely valuable and as more farmers are using this type of technology on-farm, rural thefts are being very selective with the farms they are targeting.”

He warned that “organised gangs” usually target one area before moving on, so farmers in Northern Ireland should take appropriate measures to protect their farm business.

He added that the thefts in counties Antrim and Armagh are “proof that these criminals are working to an agenda”.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) offers some advice on farm thefts and rural burglary, which includes:

  • Fit alarms to storage and other sheds. Always display appropriate signage to deter criminals;
  • Fencing, hedges and walls should be robust, well maintained and regularly checked;
  • Secure or immobilise vehicles, plant, trailers and equipment when not in use. Remove valuable machinery from fields overnight and keep items of value such as quads and cattle trailers in a securely locked shed, out of sight;
  • Know your stock and maintain accurate records;
  • Consider restricting access to your driveway to prevent unwelcome vehicles entering.

Irvine advised to secure GPS equipment safely overnight and make sure the equipment is covered by CCTV if you have it installed.

“Stolen GPS equipment is often shipped to Europe to be sold and to help recover the kit should it be stolen, make sure you have made a note of the serial number of the equipment. If you notice any suspicious behaviour in your area, call the PSNI immediately,” he said.

By Barbara Collins

The cliché of the farmer’s wife making ‘pin money’ with pots of jam is a well-worn trope, but often it can lead to a new direction for a family farm.

Amanda Hanna from the north coast of Antrim and her husband, Arthur, farm on a 200-year-old dairy farm with 150 grass-fed dairy cows.

Milking takes up a large chunk of their time. Amanda says the milking parlour is her “favourite place to be” where she can “forget about everything she has to do”.

From dairy to jams

Amanda decided to stay at home after their third child and that was when she started making jams, preserves and chutneys calling them Jam at the Doorstep.

That was seven years ago. They were sold at a honesty box at the back door. “The name comes from that old tradition,” Amanda explained. Then as demand grew, they opened a small farm shop in November 2020.

Afternoon teas came next which are held in her farmhouse kitchen where she also does some events.

Cookery demonstrations take place from time to time at community centres and a nearby former flax mill, but what Amanda is also passionate about is her puddings. The Christmas pudding and a Sticky Toffee pudding have both won stars at the Great Taste Awards.

Work is ongoing on a new farm shop which they hope to open later in the year.

“I still help my husband, Arthur, milk the cows twice a day, but the orders and events make for a really nice variety in my life” she said.

Cooperation – Farm Foodies

Amanda recently joined forces with her friend Wendy Dempster who owns a street food truck called The Lamb Van. Wendy and her husband, Alan run a 50ac sheep farm.

She uses their Farm Quality Assured, grass-fed lamb in street food dishes like lamb sausage rolls and also sells fresh meat boxes.

Wendy has joined forces with Farmer Time to educate primary school children about lamb and how many different cuts there are, “apart from the leg which is the most well-known to them”, Wendy remarked.

Wendy and Amanda are part of a group are called The Farm Foodies.

“We want to bring the flavours of Co. Antrim to locals and neighbours through products, workshops and food experiences. There is also the convenience of delivery which makes it easier for people to support local and in turn support local farms,” Wendy explained.

“The social aspect is very important to us. We all grew up with the milkman and the bread van. This is a return to that way of shopping.

“It is not the only way people shop. We’re not pretending that it is, but people are liking the return to getting different things from different places and interacting more. The sense of community is key.

“We are open to new local food growers and makers joining us. We are committed to slow food and it makes absolute sense to eat in season and support the agri-food community. You get fresher produce, lower food miles and it tastes better, too,” Amanda added.

More diversification in Northern Ireland

Jams and chutneys are also the side hustle which has grown wings for Glen Black from Peggy’s Family Farm near Tandragee in Armagh. The family farm is still a working dairy farm, but he has now gone part-time to cope with demand.

Glen and Caroline Black and family, Co. Armagh

The newest addition to the farm outbuildings is the “heshed” or jam kitchen.

“I used to make them in my home kitchen which served me well,” Glen explained. “But this new space was badly needed.

“I am now busy enough to have gone down to three days a week at my job, which is dealing with insurance claims at a veterinary practice.

“I do two other days growing and producing and one day at a market. It is a good work-life balance; it is perfect with a growing family,” Glen added.

Glen grows some vegetables in polytunnels and a glasshouse such as heritage tomatoes, pumpkins, onions, peppers, chard, garlic, sweet potatoes and chillies.

Leftover produce is sold in seasonal vegetable boxes which is a reversal of how it all started. He was growing vegetables and herbs during lockdown and selling in boxes.

The preserves were made with the glut to his granny’s recipes but fast forward a few years and the original glasshouse has been joined by two polytunnels where chillies and crops needing more heat are grown.

“I am enjoying creating new recipes with things that have never been grown on the farm before. My granny could only work with traditional ingredients like beetroot and carrots, but I like that I can add some new herbs and spices,” Glen continued.

“What started out very small has become an important part of our lives and our farming income.”

A farmer from Co. Armagh has been sentenced for failure to comply with notice to isolate tuberculosis (TB) reactors.

Philip Thomas Gordon (26) was convicted of one charge of failure to comply with a notice in breach of Article 9(1) of the Tuberculosis Control Order (Northern Ireland) 1999, contrary to Article 52(1)(a) of the Diseases of Animals (Northern Ireland) 1981 at Armagh Magistrates' Court today (Monday, April 4).

He was fined £500 plus a £15 offender levy.

The farmer's case arose following a cattle identification inspection carried out by officers from Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) Welfare and Enforcement Branch.

In total, 91 animals that had previously tested positive for tuberculosis were not isolated to prevent further spread of the disease.

This, DAERA said, clearly undermines the efforts of the farming community and DAERA to ensure a healthy national disease-controlled herd and safe beef to sell on the home market and abroad.

The legislation, DAERA noted, is in place to prevent the spread of disease in herds and neighbouring herds, and the majority of herd keepers fully comply with the requirements of the TB eradication scheme.

A 52-year-old farmer from Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland, has been found guilty of the transportation of a cow which was not fit for journey and causing unnecessary suffering.

Brian Cullen was ordered to pay a fine of £500 plus a £15 levy at Newry Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday, February 7).

After a cow belonging to Cullen was transported to an abattoir, an on-duty Official Veterinarian (OV) said that the animal was emaciated, with a very swollen lower right leg.

The severe nature of the swelling and the poor body condition of the animal showed the condition had been long-standing.

The Armagh man was thus convicted of one charge of transporting or causing to be transported a cow which was not fit for journey, contrary to Regulations 51(a) of the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 and Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005; and one charge of by reason or an act or failure to act by himself caused unnecessary suffering to a cow and he ought reasonably to have known that the said act or failure to act would have that effect or was likely to do so, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.

To note, the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 also requires that animals must be fit to travel and must be cared for if they fall ill or are injured during transport.

The animals must be accompanied by competent persons and must be transported to their destinations without undue delay.

An appeal for information has been made following the theft of a Nugent trailer along with a number of fence posts from a yard in Co. Armagh in recent days.

Making the appeal, local Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers based in Co. Armagh said:

“It has been reported to police that, over the past weekend, a Nugent branded 8ftx4ft trailer along with a payload of fence posts has been taken from the vicinity of Traynors Auto Parts a few miles outside of Armagh.

Image source: Police Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon

“The fence posts almost filled the trailer making it quite distinctive.

It is believed that a large 4×4 jeep-type vehicle may have been used.

The police officers took to social media with photos of a Nugent 8ftx4ft trailer – which is not the one taken but the same model – and the type of fence posts it contained.

The PSNI statement concluded by stating: “If you recall seeing a similar trailer being towed or have any information that may prove helpful please ring 101 quoting reference 291 of the 09/11/2020.”

‘Agricultural crime down 7.6% in the last 12 months’

A recent PSNI report has stated that agricultural crime rates have continued to fall in the last 12 months.

There were 355 agricultural crimes recorded in Northern Ireland, a fall of 7.6% on the previous 12 months and continuing the downward trend seen since 2010/11.

A car stopped at a recent checkpoint was found to be running on a mix of kerosene and green agricultural diesel – landing the driver in hot water with the law earlier this week.

The car was one of four vehicles found to be travelling on marked mineral oil (agricultural diesel) by members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) based in Armagh in a multi-agency checkpoint yesterday, Thursday, January 30.

Taking to social media, PSNI officers in Armagh gave an account of their checkpoint results, stating:

Officers from South Area Burglary Team worked with HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs) yesterday in the Armagh area, carrying out a number of check-points.

“Our priority as police is to catch burglars, drug dealers, disqualified drivers and those who drive with no insurance.

“HMRC’s priority is to tackle those who take the chance of driving on rebated fuel when they shouldn’t be.

“After we spotted a driver driving past with no seatbelt on, HMRC came and took over, discovering that he was driving with a tank full of green diesel.

Two other vans were found to be running on red diesel, whilst a car was found to be running on a mix of kerosene and green diesel – the drivers all received a hefty fine.

“Yes, fuel is expensive, but it’s not fair that one hardworking person should get away with driving on cheaper fuel than the next hardworking person, who abides by the rules.”

The PSNI noted that its team carried out anti-burglary patrols, seized drugs, carried out searches, detected numerous traffic offences and arrested a male “who had warrants and was wanted for numerous crimes”.

“He’d been avoiding police for a while, but will have a trip to court this morning,” the PSNI statement concluded.

Worrying livestock, especially sheep during lambing season, is a very serious concern for farmers, the local authority in counties Armagh and Down has warned.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough (ABC) Council issued a warning to dog owners earlier this week on Monday, January 21, noting that over the course of a year it investigated 26 complaints of livestock worrying.

In a statement, the council said: “Whilst worrying of livestock can involve attacking or killing, it also includes the chasing of sheep or cattle.

“Chasing by dogs can do serious damage to livestock, even if the dog does not catch them.

The stress of worrying by dogs can cause sheep to die and pregnant ewes to miscarry their lambs causing financial loss to a farmer. This financial cost can be substantial, with the loss of valuable stock, veterinary care, abortions in attacked and frightened animals and damage to property.

Over the period April 2018 to March 2019, ABC Council received and investigated 26 complaints of worrying livestock, the local authority highlighted.

“Unaccompanied dogs and dogs not under control can be involved in livestock worrying incidents, ABC Council is reminding dog owners to act responsibly and ensure their dog is under control at all times and in particular kept secure at night.”

Stressing the importance of responsible dog ownership, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, cllr Mealla Campbell said:

“While we know that the vast majority of dogs are well looked after and are friendly, family pets, it should be recognised that it is every dog’s instinct to chase, meaning all dogs have the potential to inflict injury and to worry livestock.

This worrying of livestock especially sheep during lambing season is a very serious concern for farmers and we urge dog owners to always act responsibly by keeping their dog under control.

ABC Council reminded owners it has the authority to seize any dog (of any type and breed) suspected of being involved in worrying or attacking livestock, owners may be prosecuted for any offences and a court may order the dog to be destroyed.

A civil case may also be brought by the farmer for any financial loss suffered, the authority warned.

An Audi was one of two vehicles seized for running on red agricultural diesel by officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) over the weekend on Friday night, January 17.

In a statement on the matter, a spokesperson for PSNI officers based in Craigavon, Co. Armagh, confirmed that the cars had been seized, outlining:

“Have a nice car but don’t want to pay the costs to run it like most other people? Then it’ll be seized – just like this one was last night, after it was found to be running on red diesel.

Officers from South Area Burglary Team carrying out patrols in the area last night seized another car for the same thing, alongside arresting a female who was evading us by not turning up on bail on numerous occasions.

“Our priority is, and always will be, hunting down and arresting burglars,” the police statement said.

“However, as part of our normal patrols, alongside carrying out searches on cars to see what’s inside them (i.e. drugs or stolen items), we also carry out checks to see what’s inside the fuel tank,” the officer warned.

A similar incident took place earlier this month when the driver of a saloon car at one filling station in the “Red Hand County” of Tyrone was caught “red handed” filling their vehicle with red agricultural diesel on the station’s forecourt.

A farmer and his wife have been jailed for their role in a £610,000 (€716,000) VAT fraud, after a HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) investigation into their Co. Armagh beef cattle farm.

Joseph Cassidy, aged 50, of Killyfaddy Road, Tassagh was a VAT registered beef farmer from January 1995.

Between July 2011 and March 2015, Cassidy made fraudulent VAT claims totalling £610,000.00, according to the revenue office.

Cassidy and his wife Anna Cassidy, aged 51, who was responsible for the farms business records, were arrested on February 23, 2016, on suspicion of VAT fraud and money laundering offences.

The premises and the adjoining farmyard were searched by HMRC officers and business records were seized.

HMRC investigators established that Anna Cassidy held two bank accounts; a business account into which the VAT repayments were paid and a savings account in her name.

Both Anna and Joseph Cassidy pleaded guilty to the fraudulent evasion of VAT and money laundering offences. Both appeared at Newry Crown Court yesterday, Thursday, November 28.

Joseph Cassidy was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, and Anna Cassidy was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, according to the revenue office.

The judge ruled that each will spend half of their sentence in jail and the rest on licence.

Confiscation proceedings are now underway to recover the tax stolen, according to the HMRC.

A Limousin cattle breeder and a rural GAA club in Co. Armagh have teamed up to offer a pedigree Limousin heifer from a top-class sire as a prize for a raffle in aid of two great causes.

St. Patrick’s GFC Cullyhana, Trueman Limousins and the Southern Area Hospice are organising the raffle, with tickets priced at £20 each.

In October 2015, the Trueman Limousin herd sold the world record-breaking “Trueman Jagger” – a 2014-born Limousin bull at Carlisle England for the record price of 140,000 guineas.

Then, in 2018, Trueman Noreen, a “Jagger” daughter named Noreen, won the Overall Interbreed championship at Balmoral.

A full sister of “Noreen” will be the coveted prize for one winner in the club’s summer draw.

The draw is to be conducted by, and for the benefit of, Southern Area Hospice and St Patrick’s GFC Cullyhanna (training pitch fund).

Proceeds will be shared between the two organisations and will go to support the work of the hospice in local supporting families, as well as the efforts of the GAA in Cullyhanna to provide sport and facilities for all within rural south Armagh.

For those not involved in the agricultural industry or those simply seeking the cash value, organisers have said the prize can be sold on request at the next available pedigree Limousin sale.

The prize draw will take place on the evening of Saturday, August 24, with music and dancing also being organised for the event.

Tickets are on sale – £20 per ticket or three for £40 – and can be obtained online through the St. Patrick’s GFC Facebook page and Klubfunder.

Police have appealed for information relating to the theft of a number of cattle in Co. Armagh overnight.

Issuing a statement over social media on the matter, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Armagh account said:

“Police in Armagh are investigating a report of a theft in the Tassagh area.

The police force said it has received reports that five cattle have been taken from the area some time between 7:00pm last night (Wednesday, February 20) and 8:00am this morning.

“If you saw anything suspicious around the area of the Granemore Road, Tassagh please get in contact with us on 101 ref: 233 21/02/19 or you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111,” the PSNI stated.

This follows on from the news earlier today that the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) is asking its members to complete a short survey in order to gain an insight into the real extent of the impacts of rural crime – and why, despite this, many rural crimes go unreported.

Rural crime is an increasing and costly issue for farmers across Northern Ireland, rising as high as £2.6 million in 2017.

As part of the survey, members are asked how they view rural crime as well as the official response they receive when reporting incidents.

Efforts are being made to organise Ireland’s largest tractor run to bring a little Christmas cheer – and raise funds for two hospice charities in the process.

Organisers of this year’s Livingstone Christmas Tractor Run are hoping for a turnout of at least 800 participants for the event, which is set to be held on Saturday, December 29.

Registration takes place from 10:30am, with the run to begin at 12:00pm in Co. Armagh.

Issuing a statement on social media ahead of the big day, Cedric Livingstone, a member of the event’s organising committee, said: “This is our seventh year, with all the proceeds raised going to the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and the Southern Area Hospice Services.

Last year, we had the biggest turnout to date of 745 tractors taking part; our aim for 2018 is to break through the 800 barrier. If we achieve this, then I think we will set an Irish record.

“Tractors of all ages can take part,” he added.

This year’s event will incorporate a 17-mile route for tractors, starting and finishing in Armagh city.

It will travel through Markethill, Hamiltonsbawn and Richill on the way, before returning to ABP Business Park for a barbecue, raffle and afternoon’s craic, organisers promise.

Tractor registration costs £10 for drivers to take part and the proceeds goes to the two charities.

Those without tractors are invited along too, to check out the marvelous machines on display and support a great cause.

The Livingstone tractor run to date has raised over £260,000 for the nominated charities. Year-on-year the event has grown in size, attendees and the amount it raises for charity.

For those interested who cannot make it on the day but want to contribute, a JustGiving page has been set up for the tractor run.

dog ownersFarmers have been warned to be vigilant after a bad dog attack left nine sheep dead with a further three needing to be put down due to injuries earlier this week.

Issuing the warning, Northern Ireland based veterinary practice Orchard Veterinary Centre Armagh explained through social media the incident that had occurred near the village of Keady in Co. Armagh.

“We were called today to the Keady area for a particularly bad case of sheep worrying.

Nine sheep were killed yesterday [Monday] by a group of two-three large dogs and I had to euthanize three more because of severe bite injuries; another 10 in lamb ewes were chased badly too and can often end up aborting their lambs in these cases.

“These poor defenceless creatures stood no chance against them.

“Farmers please be vigilant to avoid more loss of life. This is why dogs cannot be allowed to roam as this is an example of the real damage they can do,” the practice warned.

In Northern Ireland, local councils are responsible for dealing with all incidents of livestock worrying.

Last year, two dog owners received destruction orders to have their dogs destroyed – while £2,324 was collected in fines from dog owners whose pets had engaged in incidents of livestock worrying.

Fraud fish kill courtThree farming brothers from Co. Armagh appeared before Newry Crown Court, Co. Down, for a VAT fraud to the sum of £140,000 (€159,117), according to local publication Armaghi, with the final brother of the three receiving his sentence yesterday (Wednesday, June 28).

Each of the brothers received a suspended sentence of varying lengths.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) reportedly discovered – following an extensive investigation that dates back to 2013 – that Ronald John Sinclair Halliday, 52, from Whitecross, Co. Armagh, had committed serious fraud offences through the forgery of invoices showing the purchase or hire of equipment and materials – believed to be agricultural in nature.

Halliday’s brothers, Pastor Gordon William Barrie Halliday from Mountnorris and Richard Jonathan Kris Halliday from Keady, apparently made fraudulent repayment claims through these false documents.

The invoices were confirmed as false by the people and businesses whose names had been used on the documentation, it was reported.

It was concluded by the Forensic Science Agency of Northern Ireland that at least some of the forged documents had most likely been written by Ronald Halliday after a handwriting examination was carried out on the invoices.

The court reportedly sentenced Ronald Halliday to 12 months, suspended for 18 months. Halliday pleaded guilty to the fraudulent evasion of excise duty at an earlier hearing.

Meanwhile, Gordon Halliday, 49, was given a nine-month prison sentence – also suspended for 18 months – after making a guilty plea to 17 counts of VAT repayment fraud, also at Newry Crown Court, on Wednesday, June 21.

Finally, Richard Halliday, 42, was sentenced to six months – with an 18-month suspension – when he pleaded guilty to seven counts of VAT repayment fraud in the same court sitting.

Armagh yesterday from injuries he sustained as a result of a farm accident which happened in Silverbridge in the south of the county.

It is understood that the accident was involving a tractor on the farm.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) said that it is aware of the death of a farmer in the Silverbridge area of County Armagh and is currently investigating the circumstances.

“Our thoughts are with the family involved at this very difficult time.”

It is the second fatal farming related accident in a week in Northern Ireland after a 60-year-old farmer died last week in an accident involving a tractor.

The farmer was involved in a two-vehicle collision in Hilltown, Co. Down and the road was closed in the aftermath of the accident to facilitate investigations.

Both sides of the border have seen farming-related tragedies in the last number of weeks. On August 15, a fatal road traffic collision occurred in county Meath after a motorcyclist was killed after his bike collided with a cow.

The fatal accident happened at approximately 10.15pm at Clarkes Cross, Navan.

The collision occurred on the Navan to Athboy road N51 (approximately two miles outside Navan). The cow was also killed in the collision.

The male motorcyclist, who was 28 years old, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.
